Manufacturing Process

01 How are memorial diamonds manufactured?

Memorial diamonds are created through High-Pressure High-Temperature (HPHT) synthesis. The process involves: (1) Carbon extraction from hair, fur, or plant fibers, (2) Purification to 99.95%+ purity, (3) Conversion to graphite, (4) HPHT crystal growth at ~5.5 GPa and ~1,450ยฐC, (5) Cutting and polishing, (6) Grading and certification. The entire cycle takes approximately 60 days. See the complete manufacturing timeline.

02 What is HPHT diamond synthesis?

HPHT (High-Pressure High-Temperature) synthesis replicates the natural conditions deep within the Earth's mantle where diamonds form. A carbon source is placed in a growth chamber and subjected to extreme pressure (~5.5 GPa, equivalent to ~150km underground) and temperature (~1,450ยฐC), causing carbon atoms to crystallize into diamond lattice structures. Explore our HPHT technology in detail.

03 What biological materials contain usable carbon?

We extract usable carbon from hair, fur, and plant fibers โ€” including human hair, pet fur (cat, dog, rabbit, horse, and other mammals), and plant material. We do not accept cremated remains, urn residue, or cremated bone fragments.

Minimum sample requirements vary by material type and desired carat weight. For a 1.0ct memorial diamond, we require a minimum of 6 grams of clean, dry fur or hair, and recommend submitting 10โ€“20 grams to ensure sufficient material with safety margin. We'll provide a collection kit with instructions.

04 Are these real diamonds?

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are physically, chemically, and optically identical to mined diamonds. The only difference is origin โ€” one grew in the earth over millions of years, one grew in our lab over approximately 60 days. A gemologist cannot distinguish between them without specialized equipment. They test as real diamonds on standard diamond testers and are graded using the same 4C criteria (carat, color, clarity, cut) as mined diamonds.

05 What colors and sizes are available?

We offer sizes from 0.5ct to 2.0ct in four standard SKUs: Entry (0.5ct, ~5.0mm), Core (1.0ct, ~6.5mm โ€” our primary SKU), Premium (1.5ct, ~7.5mm), and Flagship (2.0ct, ~8.2mm). Standard specifications: round brilliant cut, Eโ€“H color, VS clarity, Ideal cut. Custom cuts, fancy colors (blue, yellow), or special carat weights require custom development and extended lead time โ€” contact us for ODM options.

Finished jewelry settings (rings, pendants, earrings in 18K gold or PT950 platinum) can be arranged alongside diamond production. Total lead time for finished jewelry is approximately 90 days โ€” 60 days for diamond growth plus 30 days for casting and setting. See jewelry production details in Partnership FAQ.

06 What purity level is required for diamond synthesis?

Our carbon purification process achieves 99.95%+ purity before graphitization. This exceeds the threshold required for gem-quality diamond synthesis. Lower purity carbon can result in structural defects, reduced clarity, and color inconsistencies in the final diamond. Our proprietary purification protocol is protected under our 2012 national invention patent.

Samples & Certification

01 How do I send the fur or hair sample?

We provide collection kits with sterile vials, instructions, and prepaid return labels. Samples are shipped via FedEx or DHL with full tracking. Pet hair is classified as non-hazardous biological material for customs purposes, and we provide all necessary documentation for international transit. Typical sample transit time is 3โ€“5 days. We recommend collecting clean, dry fur from a brush or during grooming โ€” avoid samples contaminated with chemicals or dyes.

02 What certification options are available?

Every diamond includes a 4C gemological report. Standard certification (CCIC or ILDA International Life Diamond Association) is included at no extra cost. Optional upgrades:

  • โ€ข IGI (International Gemological Institute) full grading report: +$100โ€“$300 per diamond
  • โ€ข GIA (Gemological Institute of America) grading report: +$250โ€“$400 per diamond

Third-party certificates (IGI/GIA) are issued by the respective laboratories and cannot be customized with partner branding. CCIC and ILDA certificates are issued under BioGem Lab's accreditation. See full certification policy in Partnership FAQ.

Partnership & Business

05 Can BioGem Lab support OEM partnerships?

Yes. We offer full white-label manufacturing where your brand appears on packaging, documentation, and traceability systems. We ship directly to your end customer under your brand name. You maintain the customer relationship; we handle production, quality control, and logistics. No inventory investment required โ€” manufacture-on-demand model. View partnership programs.

06 What industries does BioGem Lab serve?

We serve: memorial diamond brands, pet cremation companies, veterinary clinics, jewelry manufacturers, funeral service groups, luxury memorial companies, and global distributors. We do not sell directly to consumers โ€” all partnerships are strictly B2B. See partner types in Partnership FAQ.

07 What is the production timeline?

Standard production cycle is approximately 60 days from carbon sample receipt to finished diamond delivery (FOB Shenzhen). This includes: sample processing (3โ€“5 days), purification (7โ€“10 days), graphitization (2โ€“3 days), HPHT growth (18โ€“25 days depending on carat), cutting/polishing (7โ€“10 days), and grading/certification (3โ€“5 days).

We do not offer rush or expedited processing. HPHT diamond synthesis is a time-dependent crystallization process that cannot be safely accelerated. Uncontrollable delays โ€” including growth failure, logistics, quality inspection, customs clearance, or force majeure โ€” may extend timelines beyond the standard estimate. See full production details in Partnership FAQ.

08 How does quality control work?

Our quality control system includes: in-process carbon purity spectroscopic analysis, growth chamber parameter monitoring, post-growth visual inspection, gemological grading (color, clarity, carat, cut), and final certification. Every diamond carries a unique CCIC traceability QR code for full chain-of-custody documentation. Partners receive complete production records including video documentation of key stages.

09 What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

There is no minimum order quantity. You can start with a single diamond to validate quality and branding. For business terms, payment structure, and volume rebates, see Pricing & MOQ in Partnership FAQ.

10 Do you provide international shipping?

Yes. We ship globally via FedEx and DHL with full tracking and customs documentation. For white-label partners, we ship directly to your end customer with your branded packaging and documentation. Average shipping cost to the United States is $80โ€“$120 per order (including insurance and tracking). Transit time: 3โ€“5 business days to US/EU, 5โ€“7 days to Australia/NZ. See full shipping policy in Partnership FAQ.

11 Can the diamond be set into jewelry?

Yes. We work with partner jewelers who can set memorial diamonds into rings, pendants, earrings, bracelets, and other custom pieces. You can use your own jeweler if you prefer, or we can coordinate the setting directly. For finished jewelry with 18K gold or PT950 platinum setting, total lead time is approximately 90 days โ€” 60 days for diamond growth plus 30 days for casting and setting. We recommend discussing setting options early in the process so the final design can be planned alongside diamond growth.

12 What happens if a customer needs to cancel or change their order?

If a cancellation is requested within 48 hours of sample receipt โ€” before diamond growth begins โ€” we refund the deposit minus a processing fee. Once HPHT synthesis has started, the process cannot be reversed because the carbon is already committed to the growth chamber. For carat size or color changes requested before growth begins, we can accommodate if the sample size is sufficient. We recommend confirming all specifications with the customer before submitting the sample to avoid changes.

13 What kind of partner support does BioGem Lab provide?

We provide full partner support including: branded collection kits with instructions, a white-label status tracking portal (embeddable on your website), product photography and process videos for marketing, FAQ copy and technical documentation, staff training via video call, and direct email/WhatsApp support.

We also offer a partner sample program โ€” qualified Type B (jewelry/gift) and Type C (brand agent) partners may apply for one 0.5ct display sample grown from our own carbon source. A refundable deposit of $500 is required. You have 14 days to evaluate the sample. If unsatisfied, return for a full refund. If satisfied, keep it as a permanent display piece โ€” the deposit is deducted from your first purchase order. Display samples are laser-marked "SAMPLE โ€” NOT FOR RESALE." See full sample policy in Partnership FAQ.

14 Do you offer exclusive territories or market protection?

We do not offer blanket exclusive territories โ€” we are a production laboratory, not a franchise. However, regional or channel exclusivity is available under negotiated agreement for partners meeting annual volume commitments. If we already have multiple active partners in a specific region, we will inform you honestly and discuss whether the market has capacity for additional partners. We prioritize quality partnerships over quantity. See exclusivity details in Partnership FAQ.
